The Education Ministry plans to provide 7,508 places for untrained temporary teachers at Teacher Education Institutes (IPG) from January.
Its Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the full-time training would be in the Post-graduate Teacher Training Programme for primary schools (KPLI-SR), Teacher’s Training Course for SPM leavers (KPLSPM) or Post-graduate Diploma in Education (DPLI).
“The offer to take up these courses in IPGs depends on the conditions for teacher training which have been set by the Government,” he told Datuk Abd Rahman Dahlan (BN-Kota Belud) during Question Time.
Dr Wee also said 7,920 untrained temporary teachers had been reappointed as at Aug 18 this year.
Of this number, 1,258 were currently undergoing holiday courses while 862 did not report for duty
